kinesiology Taping

June 6, 2017

It was during the Olympic games of 2012 That people first noticed high profile athletes wearing bright coloured tapes. That was when the term Kinesiology Taping came to public attention.

Since then the use of this form of taping in the prevention and treatment of sports injury and general muscular pain has become very common.

Kinesiology Taping was first developed in the 1970's by a Japanese chiropractor.

It is not the same as ordinary 'taping' used in sport to support a muscle or joint. Neither is it usually used as a stand alone treatment, but rather combined with other physical therapy techniques.

For example as a specialist in the lower limbs I would use it along with therapies such as massage, mobilisations, manipulations, acupuncture, and orthotics.
